Boss is celebrating today!
Here’s a quick post with Boss, who is helping us celebrate Black Cat Appreciation Day today! He’s also here to present a link to my black cat essay, which is based around an excerpt from my MUSE Medallion Award winning book, Catwoods.
I live near a creek in a forest, in close observation and awe of the wildlife outside, as well as the domestic animals of the household. I'm writer Leah T. Alford. I was "catwoods" on this site Catwoods Porch Party, Itchmo Forums for Cats and Dogs, and a few other sites that may or may not exist now. I have now published a book, and the publisher wanted it called Catwoods. I never expected the book title to be the same as my username, so for now I've changed the username to Leah. Black cats rule! As do tuxedo cats! Love them all!
I love them all too, Mary! We’ve always taken in the cats who have come to the door, many were black kitties but there were also tuxies, tabbies, torties, orangies, Siamese mixes … etc.
Concatulations on the Muse Medallion, well deserved and the book is wonderful!

Congrats again on the award! And yes, good eye! Zulu is actually a Havana Brown oriental- most people just think he is a black cat but in the sun you can see he is more of a choco brown!

Love everything about your cat. We’ve only had one black cat, but he was a character. We always have Gingers. Your photos are wonderful.

I think it’s a natural for anyone who has lived with a marvelous black kitty!
I’m a believer!!! Three years ago, I walked into PetSmart to get some supplies … and saw Ellie Mae. I wasn’t looking for a second cat – and I’d NEVER considered a black cat – but it was love at first sight. It honestly felt like she’d been waiting for me! I see all black cats differently now – knowing how much one changed my life and brought me so much happiness!
Awwww, kitties always do seem to choose us, don’t they! We’ve had so many kitties of all colors, each one special and individual, and many were black kitties. We always took in whoever came to the door.
I have never met a black cat I didn’t like!
I too have found them all charming!
Excellent celebration photo. Black cats should be appreciated they are the best. Of course, all Cats think everyday should simply be Cat Appreciation Day.

I also had a black cat. She was very, very snuggly and verbal – she loved to chat. I miss her very much. 🙂

When I told my husband that we must give Bootsy and Alex, two of our four fur (feline) babies a treat tonight, he suggested that they MAY get a piece of the steak he’s preparing. Of course, Bitty, our long-haired old fella (who had surgery last month) and Ashley, our little girl, will insist on celebrating, too. These two tabbies want in on the fun!
Your kitties all sound so beautiful . . . that will be a fabulous BCAD celebration with all kitties getting some steak treats!

We love black kitties even though there isn’t any inside here, just luck of the draw. We do have two beautiful black boys as a part of our feral family and we love them lots. Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day!

Never had a black cat ever. Mine came to me by them picking me and not me going out and picking them, at least for the most part with a few exceptions. Lots of people swear by them and are very loyal to them. No names . . .
We came by all our cats pretty much the same way, Greg, we took in those who walked up to the door. Except for the first few that we sought out. We’ve had cats of all colors, and a lot of them were black or black tuxies. All are beautiful creatures but I’ve always thought black kitties were a little extra gorgeous.
Boss is adorable. I’ve always loved black cats and have had two over the years.
Boss and I thank you, Correne! Of our many cats, a lot were black; I’ve always thought they were the most beautiful cats, although they are all beautiful.
Our old Mr. Beaucastel was a black cat. He was a real handsome fellow, a gentleman and a scholar. 🙂
Mr. Beaucastel sounds like a marvelous cat, Lavinia, and I love the name! I’ve had quite a few scholar cats, but very few gentlemen cats. To have both in one is rare!

You’ve been fortunate to have so many wonderful kitties, black or otherwise.
Indeed we have been fortunate Indulgedfurries! We’ve always taken in whichever kitties came to the door, tabbies, torties, siamese mix, light orangies, and our Bud the Editing Cat was a deep brown. Many were black as there are a great many black kitties out there.
Black cats are so mysterious! I purchased your book, have read some of it so far. 😊
